Their vision was clear: to revitalize the business, protect local jobs, and modernize operations. Just as they were preparing for a record-breaking spring season in 2015, disaster struck. A catastrophic ice storm destroyed over 80 percent of their greenhouse capacity, threatening the very survival of the company. 

Rather than retreat, Avon Valley Floral leaned into the challenge. With strategic support from CBDC Hants-Kings and a bold restructuring plan, the company not only recovered but thrived. Over the next five years, Avon Valley Floral doubled its greenhouse revenue, streamlined its product offerings, and scaled its operations to meet national demand. Today, they employ up to 150 people across their group of companies and serve more than 400 florists throughout Atlantic Canada. 

Avon Valley Floral operates as a coordinated group of independent companies under one unified brand. Their two primary business lines, wholesale cut flowers and production greenhouses, are a testament to their operational sophistication and market insight. 

Their wholesale division imports fresh florals and supplies them directly to florists, supporting a diverse range of businesses from sole proprietors to large retail shops. Meanwhile, their production greenhouses span 5.5 acres under cover, producing a vibrant array of hanging baskets, planters, potted plants, and transplants. These greenhouses are re-cropped up to six times per year, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality floral products to major wholesale customers across the region. 

AVF’s operations run nearly year-round, with a seasonal rhythm that allows for both peak productivity and team rest. Their in-house logistics system enhances responsiveness, while their commitment to innovation keeps them at the forefront of the industry. 

With five consecutive years of 20 percent year-over-year growth in their greenhouse business, Avon Valley Floral is poised for continued success. Their growth strategy is both ambitious and grounded in sustainability. They scale cautiously, ensuring that every expansion maintains their high standards of quality and service.
