A Little Cup of Sea
Rest and relaxation might be the goal for guests of A Little Cup of Sea in Colliers, but for owner Lacey Pike, it’s been a labour of love to share her peaceful corner of the province.
Since 2021, A Little Cup of Sea allows people to rent a cozy beachside cottage for full-or half-day respites. The creative concept, which allows visitors to escape the business of everyday life, while enjoying the ambiance of the ocean, warmed by a woodstove and cup of tea. Here, Lacey offers a chance to slow down, reconnect with nature, and soak in the beauty of Colliers Bay, about an hour from the city.
“After spending 15 years in Calgary working in the fast-paced world of custom fabrication project management, I returned to Newfoundland seeking a slower, more meaningful way of life,” Lacey explains. “I wanted to share the sense of calm and presence I found by the ocean and turn it into a unique offering for others. This business also allowed me to continue being a stay-at-home mom … while pursuing my passion for creating memorable, peaceful experiences.”
Since opening the business, she says seeing the joy and calm her guests experience is deeply fulfilling for her.
“I also love the flexibility it gives me … while pursuing my creative passions. Whether it's crafting new offerings such as waffletons, charm bracelet-making, brewing up arctic rose ice tea lemonade and baking for the cozy Christmas treat boxes to growing the cut flower gardens for bouquets for guests to purchase, I find joy in curating moments that make people feel cared for.”
For Lacey, income isn’t the goal, it’s sharing the peace she rediscovered after years of burnout and hustle.
“I’ve turned my love for the seaside and slow living into a space where people can escape their own busy lives, connect with nature, and make lasting memories. Along the way, I’ve learned to navigate challenges, honor my energy, and build something authentic to who I am,” she says.
A new offering at A Little Cup of Sea, allows visitors to add a sea kayak to their visit for a self-guided paddle around the bay. In addition, Lacey says she’s committed to making the space as sustainable and local as possible, sourcing as many ingredients and products from local supporters as possible and supporting other small businesses through collaboration and partnerships.
One of her partners in starting up A Little Cup of Sea was CBDC Cabot, which provided a General Business Loan, which Lacey says helped her plan sustainably for financial success, rather than accumulating personal debts.
“This eased the burden on my personal finances and positioned my business for long-term success with a strong financial foundation,” she says. “Additionally, the business training funding that I received through a program offered by CBDC gave me the tools and knowledge to better manage my business finances, ensuring that I could make informed decisions and stay on track to achieve my goals.”
CBDC Cabot and CBDCs throughout the province are there to support creative business ideas. Their business advisors want to hear your idea as well as offer support and encouragement and point you in the right direction for funding or repayable loans with exceptional interest rates.
