Lester Doucet – Robert Long Real Estate
Purchasing Robert Long Real Estate never crossed Lester’s mind, until Gerald approached him in 2009, giving him first offer. After many years’ experience as a salesman for various products and services, and 8 years with Robert Long Real Estate, Lester was ready to take the next step in his career.
As a new entrepreneur, Lester knew that receiving financing to purchase a business would be a struggle. While having conversations with some friends, it was mentioned that Growth Opportunities (Digby-Clare CBDC) was capable of helping with financing to purchase a business.
“It was a great experience working with the CBDC; they believed in my venture and made me feel valued as an individual. Because of the financing they provided me, I was able to operate a successful business and was able to pay my loan earlier than planned.”
When speaking about challenges he met along the way, Lester mentions that as an independent company, marketing had its difficulties; however, the company already possessed a reputable character where he already had something to work with.
Lester plays an integral role in contributing to the community he was born and raised in. “There’s nothing I like more than selling old heritage homes to those who are capable of repairing them. Those individuals are keeping the integrity and the heritage of the community.”
Not only is Lester selling homes, but he also sees firsthand the opportunities the buyers of a dwelling will bring to the Municipality of Clare. The opportunities come in various forms such as possible future generations and a new workforce with increased economic development within the community. There is a sense of pride we can’t overlook when speaking to Lester about this aspect of his business.
If Lester could give any advice to somebody thinking about going into business, he encourages them to have conversations with those in the respective industry. “After a couple conversations, then you can decide to move forward by contacting a business development centre, like the Digby-Clare CBDC. Without having those discussions, there’s a minimal chance your idea will bloom.”
Lester states that the industry of Real Estate will continue to remain stable. As he approaches the time to evaluate the future of Robert Long Real Estate, he stresses that there is no better time to get into the real estate industry. “It definitely has its challenges and is much different than selling a vehicle or even insurance; however, there is a stable and rewarding career to be made for an individual who is looking for a worthwhile opportunity.”
