Since 1991, Les Blancs d'Arcadie, a company based out of Caraquet, has earned an excellent reputation as a cheese maker on the Acadienne Peninsula. With the help of the CBDC Péninsule acadienne, Alberte Doiron took over the reins of the business upon her employer's departure. Doiron had been a professional cheese maker since the business opened in 1991 and was very familiar with the company's operations. "CBDC Péninsule acadienne and the Women in Business Initiative (WBI) helped me to secure the financial ressources I needed to start my business, as well as provide me with the advice I need to manage my business effectively". She benefited from many courses offered by the WBI, including Simply Accounting, and is an active member of Réseau des femmes d'affaires de la Péninsule. Les Blancs d'Arcadie had become known for its goat's milk cheese and, at the time it was founded, the company even owned its own herd of goats. However, after reviewing operating costs and examining customer demand, the company decided to concentrate on making cheese from cow's milk. Its products can now be found on the shelves in many of the region's stores and restaurants. Above and beyond simply making cheese, the company also organizes guided tours of its facilities during which visitors get an insider's look at cheese production. The company also takes part in a variety of festivals and events on the Acadian Peninsula and throughout the province. Alberte Doiron is an energetic entrepreneur who devotes her life to the advancement and improvement of her company. |
