Naturopathic Doctor – Crystal Charest
"Keeping our patients healthy so they don't get sick" is Crystal Charest's number one priority. As the only naturopathic doctor in northern New Brunswick, Crystal uses her advanced training in natural and alternative remedies to focus on improving the overall health of her patients.
Upon completion of her post graduate studies at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine Crystal returned to her native town of Miramichi to start up her own practice. Thanks to the CBDC Northumberland's Seed Capital Program and business training opportunities, Crystal opened her office and started accepting patients in 2004.
"My CBDC has been so instrumental in getting my practice started," says Crystal. "I'm really not sure if I would have ever been able to launch my business without them." Crystal's relationship with her CBDC is so strong she continues to talk with them on a weekly basis. She never hesitates to give then a quick call if she needs answers to a business question.
In addition to start-up financing and business training, Crystal syas that the networking and marketing support from the CBDC has also been invaluable.
At her clinic in Miramichi Crystal offers a range of preventative and therapeutic treatments to her patients such diet and lifestyle counseling, vitamin supplements, acupuncture and homeopathy. She continues to seek additional training and specializes in the area of chronic care and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Crystal is one of only nine Naturopathic Doctors in the province but she says the field is growing rapidly.
"Naturopathic Doctors blend modern clinical sciences with traditional healing practices," says Crystal. "Our focus is on positive preventative treatment."
