NB CBDC’s 2009 YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARD

Introduction

The New Brunswick Community Business Development Corporations (CBDC’s) supports the entrepreneurial spirit of the province’s young entrepreneurs. It is in this context that the NB Association of CBDC’s is proud to award for the second consecutive year, the NB CBDC Young Entrepreneur Award. This award recognizes the hard work, commitment and contribution to the economic development and growth in our province from a young entrepreneur from the province of New Brunswick. The recipient of the 2009 Young Entrepreneur Award will be announced on July 8th, 2009 at the Complexe Les Deux Rivières de Tracadie-Sheila, during the 2009 NB Young Entrepreneur Award banquet.

Objective

The intent of this presentation is to recognize a young entrepreneur from the provincial level whose outstanding accomplishments in their business and personal endeavours has contributed to the well-being of the residents of New Brunswick, as well as to the economic welfare of their own community.

By publically recognizing this young entrepreneur’s success, we aspire to:
• Stimulate the growth of their business as well as grow their network of personal and business contacts;
• Substantially increase their personal visibility, as well their business;
• Create new opportunities for the recipient to potentially play an active role on the Board of Directors of agencies, government committees and/or industry associations.
• Increase the number of entrepreneurial success models and mentors for future young New Brunswick entrepreneurs.

Eligibility Criteria
• Nominees must operate a business on a permanent basis in New Brunswick for at least two (2) years;
• Must have completed their second fiscal year of operations;
• Nominees must be a permanent resident of New Brunswick and be between the ages of 19 and 34 as of December 31st, 2009
• Nominees must be an owner, partner or a majority shareholder, and must own at least 50% of the business.
• Have shown perseverance and excellence in both their work and their commitment to their business.
• Demonstrate a continued growth since the creation of their company and be actively involved in their community.

Who can nominate a young entrepreneur?
• Entrepreneurs
• Financial institutions
• Various agencies
• Local governments

The following business structures are not eligible:
• Franchises
• Non-profit agencies
• Associations

Judging Panel

The Judging Panel consists of four impartial and independent judges who are not associated with the New Brunswick Association of CBDC or any of the regional CBDC offices.

Deadline for submission of applications:

All applications must be received before the close of business (4:30 pm) on June 8th, 2009. No extensions will be granted and applications received after that date will not be considered.
